Cancer Center
Introduction
    The Cancer Center consists of 13 functional groups and 11 medical teams. Acting as the center of cancer care, it integrates clinicians of different specialties, nutritionists, pharmacists, social workers, religious practitioners, specialization volunteers, and community resources in order to provide cancer patients a treatment with multi-disciplinary approaches. Dr. Jacqueline Whang-Peng, the honorary vice president; Dr. Liang-Shun Wang, the vice president and cancer center chief; and Dr. Tsu-Yi Chao, the chief of Hematology/Oncology division, are currently leading the entire faculties to promote and ensure the continuing improvement of cancer prevention, screening program, quality of diagnosis and treatment, safety issues, personalized therapy, integrated multi-disciplinary model, translational and clinical research, as well as education in Shuang-Ho hospital (SHH).
(1)Integration of Cancer Patient Services and Establishment of an Applicable Electronic Cancer Information System  
     1. Under the supervision of the “Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Committee”, the cancer center exert coordination,
          planning, establishment of cancer care teams, development of cancer diagnosis and treatment guidelines, and
          implement quality assessment and monitoring operation.
     2. Provide nutritional consultation, psychological counseling, palliative care and home-care teams to enhance medical
          care quality for terminally ill patients, and form “patient-help-patient” groups.  
     3. Reinforce cancer diagnosis and treatment services through the integration of multiple disciplines and continuous
          monitoring of the quality of patient care.  
     4. Enhance cancer registration team’s functions by effective management and application of the cancer registry
          database.  
     5. Conduct review and analysis of cancer treatment outcomes and publish annual report of cancer diagnosis and care
          of SHH.
     6. Establish an electronic information system for cancer screening, diagnosis, chemotherapy, and case management. (2)Cancer Database Registry  
     1. The registration of cancer patients’ database, including the occurrence, diagnosis, treatment, and survival, is
          performed by certified and qualified personnel. The annual cancer report is published as an important reference for
          further research.
     2. Maintain and manage the security of cancer patients’ database.  
     3. Enact regulations of cancer database inspection and access to the database system.  
     4. Disclose the cancer diagnosis and treatment outcomes and epidemiological information in a regular period for
          academic research use.  
     5. Provide statistical data to the medical staff for education and research.
(3)Provision of Cancer Prevention and Screening Programs  
     1. Create a cancer-free, healthy community by establishing the concept of cancer screening.  
     2. Provide community inhabitants with approachable, utilizable, and accessible treatment model, enabling them to
          obtain the knowledge of cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, oral cavity cancer, and breast cancer in a quick and
          accurate way.  
     3. To enable the general public to actively care about one’s health, voluntarily understand the knowledge about the 4
          abovementioned cancers, and build an ”Early Detection, Early Treatment” concept for generating a self-care,
          healthy life style to encompass no smoking, no chewing of betel nuts, avoidance of health risk factors, regular
          physical check-ups and screening of 4 cancers.
     4. Provide an independent reception for the general public to obtain services of cancer screening and related
          counseling in a convenient and explicit way.
(4)Promotion of Clinical Education and Training as well as Translational Research  
     1. Sponsor multidisciplinary tumor board meetings regularly in order to provide a personalized and comprehensive
          treatment model.  
     2. Organize education programs of cancer classification and treatment.  
     3. Provide idea and education of palliative care to medical staffs, volunteers, and social workers.
     4. Promote translational researches, execute clinical trials and provide related information.
(5) Quality Assurance and Assessment  
     1. Determine themes of hospital-wide cancer care quality improvement.  
     2. Implement cancer diagnosis and care quality improvement plans, and establish mechanisms for monitoring and
          enhancement of continuous quality improvement.
