Department of Neurology

The Department of Neurology offers services for outpatient, hospitalization, nerve electrophysiology, nerve psychology, and carotid cerebrovascular ultrasound. Currently the department has on staff eight attending physicians, consisting of: Chao-jung Hu, Ting-yu Wu, Nai-fang Chih, Chih-chung Chen, Po-chih Chen, Chen-chih Chung, Yi-chun Kuan, and Yu-hsien Huang, who were originally from Taipei Medical University Hospital, Wan Fang Hospital, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, PoJen General Hospital in Taipei, and Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital. At the same time, the country’s leading neurological medical personnel were actively recruited to join our department. In the future, with neuroscience research from Taipei Medical University, coupled with the resources and research energy of the three affiliated hospitals (Taipei Medical University Hospital, Wan Fang Hospital, and Taipei Medical University - Shuang Ho Hospital), the department hopes to gain a place for itself in the international field of neurology.

Looking ahead, the whole team here at SHH will continue to work harder to head toward the following directions through self-encouragement:

1. Strengthen nearby community links and services: The hospital’s Department of Neurology must become the preferred hospital for those with emergency and critical care (especially stroke) in New Taipei City. In the future, the department will be duty bound to advocate concepts to the general public and establish a transport system to transfer ER patients from the community to the hospital.

2. Special treatments offered by the department: Stroke, dementia, and sleep medicine will be the department’s focus of the first phase of development. In consideration to the current expertise of the doctors in the department, the goals are expected to be successfully achieved.

3. Attending physicians should have high self-expectations. Whether it is profession or moral character, they should set a good example for the younger generation of medical students and lead by example to guide medical students.

4. Research start off by resolving clinical problems. At the same time, contemplating on the association between “local” and “international” combined with the research energy of the school’s basic neuroscience and two other affiliated hospitals. Additionally, the department will strive to introduce resources from the public sector (such as National Science Council, Department of Health, etc.), so as to catch up with other domestic medical centers in the shortest possible time.

Based on the department’s current status, vision, and goals, important medical services, the current situation of teaching research, diagnosis and treatment results, research development projects, and the department’s short-term, middle-term, and long-term operating targets in the future.
